Buying guide: Sea-Dweller Certified Pre-Owned
The Sea-Dweller is Rolex's historic diver, built for professional divers, with a water resistance of 1,220 metres — second only to the Deepsea in the current range. It differs from the Submariner through a sturdier case and the helium escape valve, designed for saturation diving.
Main references
- 116600 — produced from 2014 to 2017, 40mm case. It's the last Sea-Dweller without a Cyclops lens over the date, a technical choice abandoned with the following generation; in the current range only the Deepsea still goes without one, because of the constraints of its much thicker crystal.
- 126600 — the current version since 2017, introduced for the model's 50th anniversary: 43mm case, a Cyclops lens added, "SEA-DWELLER" in red on the dial, and the calibre 3235 movement.
What to check before buying
Check the condition of the helium escape valve, the small component on the left side of the case. On the 126600, check that the Cyclops lens isn't scratched. The Oyster bracelet with Glidelock clasp should slide freely through its adjustment positions.
Why CPO makes sense for this model
Like the Submariner and the Deepsea, this is a watch designed for real diving use: servicing and a new water-resistance test carried out by Rolex offer a functional guarantee a visual check from an uncertified dealer can't replicate.
