Buying guide: Sky-Dweller Certified Pre-Owned
The Sky-Dweller is Rolex's watch for travelers with a complex schedule: it combines a second time zone with a proprietary annual calendar, called Saros, which automatically distinguishes 30- and 31-day months and needs only one manual correction a year, at the end of February. Introduced in 2012, it's one of the most sophisticated complications in the current Rolex catalogue.
Main references
- 326934 — from 2017, the first steel version with a fluted 18k white gold bezel ("White Rolesor"): the reference that made the Sky-Dweller far more accessible, with the calibre 9001 and a white, blue or grey dial.
- 336934 — the current version since 2023, same steel-and-white-gold combination, with the updated calibre 9002 (Chronergy escapement) and the new mint green dial; available on an Oyster or a Jubilee bracelet, both with ceramic inserts in the links.
- Full yellow or Everose gold versions — much higher price brackets, a niche market even within CPO.
What to check before buying
The Ring Command bezel, used to set the date, month, and second time zone, should turn and lock firmly into its three positions — excessive play is worth having checked. On White Rolesor versions the white gold is in the bezel only — case and bracelet are all steel — so the check belongs on the fluting, where wear shows up first. Finally, make sure the month windows around the dial are legible and that the red frame correctly indicates the current month.
Why CPO makes sense for this model
Being a complicated watch rather than a simple three-hander, verifying that the annual calendar works correctly requires specific technical expertise. Rolex certification, which includes checking these functions, offers a level of reliability assurance that's harder to obtain from a simple visual check by an uncertified dealer.
