Buying guide: Submariner Certified Pre-Owned
The Submariner is the world's best-known dive watch and, alongside the Daytona, one of the Rolex models with the most consistent demand over time. That's exactly why it's also one of the most common models in the Certified Pre-Owned channel, with good availability across references and conditions.
Main references
- 116610LN — Submariner Date with a black Cerachrom bezel, produced until 2020: the previous generation, now discontinued and highly sought after pre-owned.
- 126610LN — the current generation, slightly larger case and the new calibre 3235 movement.
- 124060 — the no-date version, with the same 41mm case and the same thickness as the 126610LN: the only difference is the absence of a date window and Cyclops lens, favored by those who prefer a cleaner dial.
What to check before buying
The Cerachrom ceramic bezel holds up well over time, but it's worth checking the edges for chips. On the Oyster bracelet, check for link play (a heavily worn bracelet will "rattle" on the wrist) and that the Glidelock clasp works properly, allowing tool-free micro-adjustments. On older versions, dial and lume colour can vary slightly between examples — not a defect, but something that affects perceived value for some collectors.
Why CPO makes sense for this model
Being one of the most counterfeited Rolex models in the world, the Submariner is also the one where the gap between a certified and an uncertified purchase matters most for peace of mind. The CPO channel guarantees authenticity, a serviced movement, and tested water resistance — not a given on a watch designed for actual diving use.
